Is it strange to feel relieved after being laid off?
After 5+ years working at the same company, it felt like a breath of fresh air to be told that it’s time to pursue new opportunities. Mentally, I knew that I was stuck in rut and ready for a change. Being laid off was a good kick in the butt to push me to visualize my career development.
My tagline for 2018 until I find a new job – “I have the time”.
In high school, the most important lesson from my Economics teacher is that nothing is more valuable than time. You can never get it back. I intend to make the most of my valuable time.
With a full-time career, you sacrifice your hobbies and interests at times in order to meet deadlines and objectives. I’m grateful that I work for an organization that’s generous to those that they let go. I’m able to search for a new job and develop my skill sets at ease with my current financial situation.
Never look at being laid off as failure on your part. Take it as an opportunity to seek change and improve yourself. You go through challenges in life to make you stronger. As I pursue this new journey, I will keep you guys updated on my progress and lessons learned. There will be bumps and disappointments along the road, but I know that I will find success in the end.
